Shawn Grass
Shawn Grass currently is a Battalion Chief with the Indianapolis Fire Department. He previously served as the Chief of Training for the Warren Twp. Fire Dept. in Indianapolis, Indiana for 8 yrs before merging with Indianapolis. Shawn is a 23 year member of the fire service that has instructed at both FDIC East and West in Truck Company operations and Flashover. He has instructed Flashover at FDIC in Indianapolis for the last 10 yrs and is currently the Co-Lead Instructor. He has also taught at Firehouse Expo in Baltimore and Firehouse World in San Diego.
He has an Associate’s Degree in Applied Fire Science and also teaches as an adjunct instructor for Ivy Tech Community College teaching the Firefighter I/II program in Indianapolis where he also sits on the advisory board. He is also a member of the Indiana Fire Instructor’s Association. He has taught at many state fire schools on topics such as extrication, leadership, truck company operations, flashover, and rapid intervention skills to name a few. He also has instructed the Auto/Machinery Extrication module for Indiana Task Force One for the last 10 years. He also is adjunct instructor for the State of Indiana teaching topics of Strategy and Tactics, Incident Safety Officer, Leadership and Company Officer skills to name a few. Shawn owns Burning Passion Fire Training Systems and also teaches with the group from Advanced Rescue based in Indianapolis.
Shawn also is on the Executive board for the Indiana auto extrication regional competition, which runs this competition annually. The board has also held the 2007 World Competition which is sanctioned through the Transportation Emergency Rescue Committee.
Shawn also is the fire training team leader for To Hell and Back 1, 2, and 3, an educational program released to every fire department in the United States on firefighter burn prevention through the People’s Burn Foundation in Indianapolis. Shawn also is the President of the Indy Metro F.O.O.L.S. since its inception in 2002.
